RTEmagicC_syria_protest_brazil_jpgLecture by Petra Stienen, author, Arabist former diplomat in Egypt and Syria

What are the biggest challenges for Syria? Who are the players beyond Assad and ISIS? How should we understand the political and military interference of both the West and Russia? And who are the key actors in finding stability and peace in the region?

In her lecture, Petra Stienen – author, independent advisor and former diplomat of the Netherlands in Egypt and Syria – will focus on the Syrian crisis. Will Assad’s regime ever fall? What happens next? And why does this conflict have such disastrous effects on both the region as Europe?

Petra Stienen is an author, Arabist independent advisor and senator for D66. She worked as a human rights diplomat at the Netherlands Embassies in Egypt and Syria from 1995-2004. After she left the Foreign Ministry in 2009 she established her own business as an independent advisor for various clients in the field of democracy, diversity and diplomacy to the government, NGO’s and companies. She is one of the thought leaders in the Netherlands on European relations with the Arab world. She is an established public speaker and has won a number of prestigious awards for her work.
